These 4 MX related activities will get you through self-isolation

The bikes are packed away, there’s no racing to watch, and we’re all doing our best to self-isolate and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

While riding is now out of the question, it doesn’t mean we can’t spend our time at home doing motocross related tasks.

With no racing on the cards for a probably a little while, it’s a good chance to binge-watch supercross and motocross races on YouTube.

I love watching the old Carmichael/Reed/Stewart battles from the mid-2000s, but if I’m honest, I never really get the chance to do it too often.

Plus, there’s now a few series’ on the platform that delve behind the scenes, and these are my favourite to watch. It’s a good time to catch on the latest episodes of Red Bull’s Moto Spy season, and there’s also last year’s MX Nation and MX World series’.

Adding to that, the guys behind the Australian Supercross Championship put together an amazing season called ‘Supercross Life’, which uncovers stories more locally.

Let’s be real - a lot of us play motocross and supercross games already! I think with so much time on my hands, that’ll be stepping up a notch.

At the moment I’m really into Monster Energy Supercross 3, which was just released last month.

It’s a fun way to pass time, and it’s as close we’ll get to riding until this virus starts to die down, so it will have to do!

I’d recommend playing the latest versions of Monster Energy Supercross or MXGP, and if you have some patience and the computer power to match, then MX Simulator is a must!

Some downtime is a good opportunity to better prepare yourself and be sponsor ready for when racing recommences.

Stuff like this can often get put on the backburner heading into the season with so many things going on, but now that we’re forced to take a break, it’s a chance to do something that will benefit us when everything is ‘back to normal’.

What is getting sponsor ready exactly? It’s preparing a proposal to send out, doubling down on your value proposition, and forming a strategy to keep yourself relevant on social media in times like now so you can hit the ground running.

Have you ever wanted your bike to resemble those under the awnings of factory teams? Well, now is the time to do that.

Cleaning and polishing select parts on your bike is a timely process - one we usually don’t have the time to do, particularly when we’re riding every week.

This forced break is a good time to polish up that frame, engine cases or header pipe, and it’s an even better way to fill in a day or two.

YouTube will be your best friend here if you haven’t done this before.

Hopefully this gives you a couple of ideas to get you through this period. Be smart and stay healthy, guys!
